About GIFEdit
A focused GIF editor that stays on your device
GIFEdit is a free set of browser-based tools for animated GIFs. We built it for people who need a quick crop, resize, compress, trim, reverse, caption, or sprite sheet without installing software or creating an account.
What GIFEdit is
GIFEdit is a practical set of GIF editing tools at gifedit.tools. Each page is built around one clear job: crop a GIF, make it smaller, shorten it, reverse it, change its speed, add text, or turn an animation into a sprite sheet. The goal is simple: open the tool, finish the edit, download the result, and move on.
We are not trying to replace every desktop animation app. We focus on the edits people need most often when they already have a GIF and want one more step before posting, messaging, adding it to a website, or using it in a game or app.
Why your GIF stays on your device
Most GIFEdit tools process your file directly in your browser. That means the GIF you select is handled on your device while you edit, instead of being sent to our servers for the normal edit. Privacy is part of how the tools work, not an afterthought.
- No account is required to use the core tools.
- No sign-in step sits in front of crop, resize, compress, trim, and the other editors.
- You can finish an edit without uploading your GIF to our servers.
- You can review a preview before downloading the new file.
Keeping the edit on your device also helps everyday files feel fast. You choose a GIF, adjust the settings, and download the result without waiting on a remote server.
The tools inside GIFEdit
GIFEdit is organized as a set of focused tool pages rather than one crowded workspace. That makes each page easier to understand and easier to use on phones and desktops.
Who GIFEdit is for
Creators and social posters
Crop reaction GIFs, trim dead air, add a short caption, or resize an animation before posting to social apps and chat tools.
Marketers and support teams
Compress product demos, resize assets for docs, and keep loops short enough to share in tickets, emails, and landing pages.
Developers and game makers
Convert GIF frames into sprite sheets, reverse loops, and adjust timing when you need a simple animation asset without opening a full desktop editor.
Anyone who just needs one clean edit
If you only need to crop, shorten, or compress a GIF once, GIFEdit is meant to stay out of the way and finish the job quickly.
How a typical edit works
- Open the tool you need. Start from crop on the homepage or jump to resize, compress, trim, reverse, speed, text, or sprite sheet.
- Choose a GIF from your device. Drag and drop, browse, or paste where the tool supports it.
- Adjust the settings. Use the crop box, timeline, size controls, compression level, speed, captions, or grid options.
- Preview and download. Check the result, then save the new GIF or PNG to your device.
What we care about
- Clarity over clutter. One main action per page so the next step is obvious.
- Edits that keep the animation working. GIF tools should respect motion, looping, and timing instead of treating every file like a single still image.
- Privacy by default. Editing on your device is part of the product, not a footnote.
- Mobile and desktop use. The same tools should work in modern browsers without an install.
- Honest limits. Very large files can still slow a browser down. Where needed, tools show a clear size limit instead of pretending every file will work the same way.
What GIFEdit is not
GIFEdit is not a full animation studio, a stock GIF library, or a social network. We do not store your project history in an account dashboard, and we do not promise that every download is a perfect copy of the original file. Saving a new GIF can change small details even when a tool tries to keep the look, size, and speed close to the source.
If you need advanced timeline editing, heavy effects, or shared cloud projects, a dedicated desktop app may still be the better fit. If you need a fast GIF edit in the browser, GIFEdit is built for that.
How we build GIFEdit
GIFEdit exists to make animated GIF editing feel direct: pick a file, make one clear change, download the result. Privacy, speed, and plain language matter more to us than packing every possible control into a single screen.
We keep adding tools that help people finish common GIF jobs: crop for space, trim for time, compress for size, resize for fit, reverse and speed for motion, text for context, and sprite sheets for games and apps.
